An unbelievable experience . The staff . Doctors and lecturers are very professional . food was as good some restaurants I have been in . I made life long friends with other patients . This is not only a stopover stay but excellent aftercare is also provided . I can recommend this hospital and no one should be scared to admit to the help that they need as this place provides you with all the coping mechanisms needed .
Absolutely appalled I have a daughter who is supposedly being treated for a severe eating disorder, her toilet door has been left unlocked for 90% of her stay , appointments have either been cancelled at the last minute or the therapist/Dr not bothered to show up. The majority of the staff on the ward are agency they have not got a clue about "caring" for patients with eating diaorsers, it would seem that they have no training or experience, they even asked about how much milk and nesquick to prepare (they're caring for annorexic and bulimic people!!!you don't ask the patient with this illness about portion size they usually have!!) Read the patients notes before starting work. Members of staff seem to think it's acceptable to receive a personal call when carrying out a supervised walk and then proceed to speak in their mother tongue, personal calls are to be made/received in your lunch break !! We did read a brochure about the priory hospital of course it was all positive stories from other eating disorder patients!, we were confident that the level of treatment and care would be excellent!, but when reality showed its face it was nothing like the brochure stateted. To be honest I would be surprised if anyone makes a positive recovery after attending this unorganized and poorly managed hospital which is a shame, with the correct management and trained staff it could be a very good hospital to be treated at as an in patient. The only positive I can comment on is that the location is tranquil .
The care here is amazing, the nursing staff are very caring and supportive while the therapists are excellent at doing their job and the consultants are highly experienced practitioners - I would recommend Dr David Wood.Unlike other psychiatric hospitals the Priory has a relaxed approach to its therapy which may sometimes appear lax or slow but it's proven to work, I know patients who have left to go elsewhere and returned within a week once they have experienced other care providers. The Priory have a policy of treating you like an adult while fostering a safe and secure environment. It's not to be forgotten though that this is still a psychiatric hospital, not a hotel, and should be measured as such, consequently there will be some patients who will not have enjoyed their time here as you can imagine; the Priory caters for patients with varying degrees of mental illness and sometimes those with issues higher up the scale will find the care contrary to their wishes out of necessity.
Went here a while ago for an appointment at a crisis point. Saw a senior psychiatrist here who produced a very garbled draft of a diagnosis and suggested treatment programme and asked me to amend it as I wished. Returned for a further appointment as much needed to be clarified only to find myself in the same position as before, being asked to redraft the letter myself! I felt unsupported and as if I was being asked to diagnose myself. A very expensive, and never to be repeated, mistake! The 2 stars are for the fantastic support staff there - the receptionists and admin staff, who were always very helpful.
Not impressed, contacted the Priory for an appointment to discuss my anxiety, informed that I could see a specialist, enquired as to payment, via cheque or other means, told that the charge would be 350, but was not informed as to what this amount provided, was it for a single consultation, medical examination? So I declined the appointment, left somewhat puzzled and slightly more anxious. At the very least I should have been informed as what the 350 represented.
